Airport Event and Government Building Standoff

Previously that day, thousands of supporters momentarily entered Nairobi's international airport, disrupting a formal proceeding where President William Ruto and dignitaries were welcoming Odinga's corpse with military honors.

This event prompted a temporary halt of airport operations.

Crowds also flooded nearby roads and tried to enter parliament, where the government had initially planned the community homage.

Political Heritage and Community Backing

Although primarily recognized as an political challenger, Odinga served as senior minister in 2008 and also formed a political pact with Ruto last year in a public service defined by shifting alliances.

He inspired strong loyalty among supporters, especially in his ethnic group based in the country's west, many of whom believe he was denied the highest office by vote manipulation.

Many of Odinga's supporters, who were not living in 1991 when Kenya became a multi-party democracy, expressed respect to Odinga's contributions as an advocate.
